I know this isn't what I usually blog about but I think it's important to address this issue as it seems to be one that is in the forefront of most women's minds. I've been looking on tumblr/pinterest/twitter recently and there seems to be a lot of mixed messages about body image, health, fitness and losing weight.
I just find this upsetting as a lot of these girls are punishing themselves with diet and exercise to look a certain way which may not even be achievable for them. We're so heavily influenced by the media, especially photoshopped images that we expect our bodies to be perfect. Has anyone thought that it's okay for girls to look like normal girls rather than models? Who doesn't enjoy a treat after a long day at work or dessert when having a meal out. Why should we be made to feel guilty about loving and truly enjoying food?
Has anyone stopped and thought that each individual person should be able to decide what is a healthy version of themselves, if that includes a few extra pounds or a roll of fat that's healthy too. What's unhealthy is obsessing over how you look and forgetting to live your life, we've all been guilty of doing this I'm sure, I certainly have.
Girls (and guys), stop focusing on how you look and start enjoying the little things in life! If eating a slice of cake makes you happy, do it! If eating an apple makes you happy, do it. Do what you want to do, not what some image on the internet with a witty phrase like "french fries or skinny thighs" says to do. If you want fries eat them! Equally if you don't want to eat fries, don't!
Don't try and be anyone else but you, because I can say without even seeing you that you are beautiful and there is much more to you as a person than how you look or your clothing size. Don't define yourself by a number or compare yourself to other girls. You need to love you and your body just the way you are. If you want to get healthy, go for it. But don't forget to be proud of yourself now.
